“Expanded Vision: People are People”

CROss cultural project update

In June 2024, we checked our suitcases and stepped onto an airplane with a team of eight leaders from CO ministries from all over Kentucky with the destination of Khon Kaen, Thailand. For over a decade we had heard tales of God working there in north central Thailand, how he was raising up a multiplying movement there through the college campuses that was building the Church there for His glory.

Our team had zero experience in world missions, no expectations other than to serve, and really no idea what we were doing. But God was with us.

Thirty-seven hours later we landed, disoriented and jet lagged, and within a couple days we were on campus. We were intimidated, unable to communicate, let alone minister to these Thais. Then a CCP leader said, “People are people.” What he meant was: Let’s not overthink this. These are college students. They go to class, eat lunch, play sports, and engage in social lives every day. They just want to be known and loved.

For the next 6 weeks, we lived life alongside the staff and students there in Khon Kaen. We built relationships with many new Thai students, and by God’s grace we were able to connect many of them to full-time Thai staff there in the city. We had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with many of them over lunch, coffee, or in between games of badminton or volleyball.

In the wake of these relationships, six students have come to know Jesus in a land where He is scarcely known! And in an ironic twist, God expanded our vision of the world and His Great Commission by teaching us this simple truth: People are People!

“Cross Cultural Project in Thailand softened and strengthened my heart for evangelism, discipleship and His people that goes far beyond our America. The Lord was kind to our team this summer and fostered lifelong friendships. To see God’s universal faithfulness on the other side of the world lit a fire in me for ministry here at home.”
